Blog Post #1: “How To Write Your First Podcast Episode”

Since I am still overcoming my relentless perfectionism whenever I work on any creative project, I decided to do a very instructional designer thing and create a step-by-step list on how I will write my first podcast. (Writing about writing, I know, it’s meta).

  • 1) Braindump on paper. I feel most creative when I write using pen and paper. My plan is to write down whatever comes to mind when it comes to what I want to talk about.
  • 2) Set limits. I will set an episode time limit so that I don’t ramble.
  • 3) Mind map. I like mind mapping. Since the title of the podcast is “main character energy,” I will mind map whatever comes to mind (words, images, media examples) when I think about this term.
  • 4) Write the script. I would free write the script and what I want to say. Then, I’d try to create a bullet point outline of the most important things to say.
  • 5) Record. Does anyone else struggle with hearing the sound of their voice? I know I can edit my audio using Adobe Audition, but still, sometimes I can’t stand the sound of my own voice. (I know it is ironic that I want to create a podcast).
  • 6) Post it. I know that after some editing of the audio, I will just need to post it on the Internet so that it is a published piece of work. This is honestly the hardest step for me to let…go.

Ok, this is all I can handle right now before falling into despair about why I’m writing about podcasting rather than doing the podcasting. Thanks for reading.
